The University of Montenegro, Faculty of Maritime Studies Kotor as project coordinator, together with the Institute for marine biology, the Environmental Protection Agency of Montenegro and the NGO Eco Center Dolphin, as partners in the project, organized a practical presentation of equipment for mapping solid waste from the sea on 21st February 2024.

During this demonstration, attendees had the opportunity to learn about the operation and performance of the underwater drone (Remotely Operated Vehicle - ROV), model BlueRov2, which was purchased through the project. This underwater drone has 8 motors with propellers, which allows it to move in all axes and maintain a stable depth. It is also equipped with an HD camera with lighting and sonar for recording the seabed and locating various objects, including shipwrecks or various debris. In addition, it is equipped with a mechanical arm with a grab and a sampler for taking samples of seawater from the water column, and its working depth is 300 meters.
The goal of this demonstration is to promote the first regional joint interdisciplinary master program in English in the field of maritime environmental protection and management, which will start in September 2024. This interdisciplinary master program is intended for graduate students in the fields of natural, technical-technological and social sciences, as well as employees in state administration and companies in the blue economy sector. This and other equipment acquired through the MEP&M project will be used for the needs of practical teaching and student research.
